IE7 now available without WGA
Microsoft is now allowing users to download IE7 without with Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) check either at the download or at the time of the installations.
This means that even those who have pirated copies of the Windows XP can even download and install IE7.
I wonder why Microsoft is doing this now ? Maybe they want bring all the Windows XP system on par as far as internet security (safe browsing plateform). Or maybe they are just worried about the increasing share of the Mozilla Firefox. Or maybe they are just laying the foundation for there next version of the Internet Explorer. Who knows! Your guess is as good as mine.
Windows XP users will be able to download Internet Explorer 7 through Windows Update or from Microsoft's IE7 home page.

µTorrent 1.4 released
µTorrent 1.4 released. The most notable new features are:
- Bitcomet style add dialog
- RSS Reader
- Speed wizard to select your proper settings based on upload speed.
For those, who don't know what µTorrent is ?
µTorrent is an efficient and feature rich BitTorrent client for Windows sporting a very small footprint. It was designed to use as little cpu, memory and space as possible while offering all the functionality expected from advanced clients.
I have been using µTorrent for couple of months now, because its small (only 130 KB) and takes up less memory and resources then other clients.
But watch out, from version 1.3 and above the µTorrent doesn't gel well with the 'Internet Worm protection' feature of th Norton AntiVirus. So either switch that feature off in the NAV or use version 1.2.2 of µTorrent.

Getright 5.2
Getright 5.2 has been released.

PostgreSQL 8 beta (and on windows)
PostgreSQL released the new beta 8 of their database server, a couple of days ago.
The best part is that they have now released a versions that run natively on Windows. This is great for the PostgreSQL because (most) developers like me use the Windows for web development. Although I have been working with PostgrSQL for couple of years now, but I had to run it with cygwin on windows, or work on Linux. Now I can work directly on Windows.
I downloaded and installed it. There is just one problem, it didn't install on a FAT32 file system, due to not being able set permissions on the FAT32, so it can only be installed on NTFS file system at the moment. So take this into account.
While we are on the topic, I use phpPGAdmin for the web adminsitration of the PostgreSQL.
Please do tell me what software, utilities or other resources like reference material, tutorials or security info do you guys use for the PostgreSQL.
P.S: As with all the beta software, this version is not ready for the production release, so please use it at your own risk.

XPY: Security and Antispy
XPY is an open-source tool which disables the default threats of a Windows 2000/XP/2003 installation. Beside classic "Antispy" features, xpy closes security holes like the RPC Service and DCOM, which were used by internet-worms such as "Lovesan" to intrude into a system.
Some of its features are:
- Disable Windows XP "calling home"
- Disable questionable system-services
- Disarm Internet Explorer
- Disarm Media Player
- Remove Windows Messenger
- Improve security
- Improve performance
Did I mention that it is small ? Only 44 KB in filesize. According to me that makes it an essential software for every windows installation.
Download XPY.
Firefox 0.9
I have just downloaded the new version 0.9 of Firefox.
My inital usage tells me it has gotten faster in few areas. However, few minor problems still exists, but I find it better than IE even in its current version. Infact I use it for around 80% of my surfing with it now.
Winzip replacement
IZArc is freeware archive utility supporintg almost all the compression format.
I have been using IZArc for a while now. It has all the features that are in there in commerical compression utilities like WinZip, plus couple of more. I have actually removed the copy of WinZip from my computer and use IZArc exclusively.
